ABOUT ME
I am Sophia Ripley – A British Singer / Songwriter / Producer
I was born in Cambridge into a large musical family and I’ve got music in my DNA. My late Father was a Doctor of music and my Mum is a classically trained Singer. My style is rooted in both jazz and soul, with a hint of gospel and reggae and many other styles. My original, thought provoking lyrics, usually express, with ruthless honesty my personal experiences and opinions, and are always delivered with sincere emotion, a little polite ranting and a few moments of humour!
Having spent my life thus far singing, writing, performing, recording and teaching peeps to sing, I decided to release my first maxi single, ‘Little Girl’. It was warmly received and embraced by many DJs and radio stations and it slowly but surely reached more and more ears. It continues to travel around the world, touching people’s hearts I think! Everyday people message me because they have just discovered it, which is a beautiful thing! In October '17 'Little Girl' made her way to America and stayed at #7 in the Indie Soul Charts for two weeks! (wow moment) She also made it onto the Luxury Soul 2018 album (Expansion)featuring alongside some incredible artists and producers. Another wow moment for me! I loved this review from ‘The Soul Survivors Magazine’ “CD three has a few personally observed gems worth mentioning especially Sophia Ripley’s quite enchanting, mellow and salacious ‘Little Girl’”
My thoughts Little Girl was inspired by my journey of becoming a Mum. Lyrically, it expresses the emotions you go through personally as a Mum and highlights some of the experience’s your baby is going to encounter, like sound and taste. All these things are encapsulated with metaphors and simplicity. It’s a soothing song, especially the Lullaby Mix and at the same time a soulful, exciting celebration of daughters, nieces and any other special Little Girl! Hope it touches you, like it still does me. I’m a proud Mummy!

‘Lately’ A funky, latin house gem, which again was warmly received, especially the ‘Blazing Encore Revybe’ which took the ‘latin’ to another level! Available to stream and download only
'Maybe' it's a sweet reggae groove that is lyrically contemplating whether to expose, or not to expose one's feelings and intentions with a love interest, hence the title 'Maybe'. I'm always soulful I guess with my vocal, but this vocal particularly high-lights my jazz and reggae twists and turns. These genres have been as influential to me as much as soul music has. 'Breathe' is a collaboration that is taking two paths! This is my version that I’ve combined with my collaborator’s version to some degree.A lesson in the wonder of EQ!
This song was a journey of pain and love.... an unblocking experience artistically.... feeling the pain but remembering the love....I’m putting it in a genre of its own called ‘Painful Erotica’ but it sits nicely with a chill out tag – it’s deep!
